I have worked as a consultant surgeon at Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh since 2008 specialising in upper gastrointestinal and general surgery. Before my consultant appointment I completed higher surgical training in the North East of England from 2002-2007 and a fellowship in Upper GI Surgery at Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia 2007-2008. My specialist interests include weight loss surgery, oesophageal and gastric cancer, anti-reflux surgery, and laparoscopic general surgery (including gallbladder and hernia surgery). My private practice through Spire Murrayfield Hospital reflects my NHS practice.

I am the Scotland representative of the Association of Upper GI Surgery of Great Britain & Ireland, and a member of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society. I am the editor of Oesophagogastric Surgery: A Companion to Specialist Surgical Practice (7th Edition, Elsevier 2023).
