General, Laparoscopic and Upper Gastro-Intestinal surgeon
Born and bred in Australia, my surgical training was completed in Melbourne in 1990. After ten years working as a general surgeon in a rural community in Australia, my family and I relocated to Scotland where I was appointed as a consultant General and Upper GI surgeon to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. There I helped to establish the bariatric (weight loss) surgery service in Edinburgh in 2007 and we opened the bariatric surgery service in the Spire Murrayfield hospital the same year.
I still enjoy the broad range of rural surgical practice and spend some of my time each year working in the smaller hospitals across the highlands and islands of Scotland. My other professional interest lies in teaching and training and I help to run courses for medical students, hospital doctors, GPs and other consultant surgeons across a variety of surgical topics, including specialised courses on advanced laparoscopic surgery.
In my spare time I enjoy walking and cycling in the great Scottish Outdoors as well as spending time with my family.
