See one of our latest patients who was featured in the Sunday Post
Murray Seaton, 64, from Edinburgh came to us in 2014 weighing around 30 stone. After opting for a Sleeve Gastrectomy, Murray has shed 14 stone - allowing him "more energy and a new lifestyle". Murray's journey wasn't particularly straightforward, as you see in the article, but he admits it has "changed his life". Read about his amazing story here.
WLSS patient features on BBC news
One of our patients featured on a BBC news piece about a proposed new sugar tax. Have a look here, to see a video of the article.
Weight Loss Surgery Scotland team feature in the Daily Record
Read one of our patient's own account of how his difficult-to-control weight impacted his life, and how having a Sleeve Gastrectomy operation at Spire Murrayfield helped him to regain control.
It makes us particularly proud that our dietitian, Fred, gets a particular mention for the instrumental part he played in helping our patient understand what was needed to turn things around.

Success in another area of healthcare
You may or may not know, but our Weight Loss Surgery Scotland surgeons are also international experts in hernia surgery: Bruce Tulloh and Andrew De Beaux are co-Presidents of the European Hernia Society. Back in May 2014 they hosted the EHS Annual Congress in Edinburgh, which ran for 3.5 days and had 1,000 surgeons attend from all over the world. Not only was this event a roaring success with its attendees, but it was also recognised by the Scottish Events Awards - who awarded the congress 'Best Congress of 2014'. Well done to our surgeons Andrew and Bruce, who can be seen in this picture in the middle and left of the middle.
The team travel to Europe once again to reinforce their clinical excellence
Following on from their visit to a weight loss surgery centre in St Gallen early in 2014 (see article below), three members of the team made the trip to The Netherlands recently on another ideas sharing visit.
The clinic in Amsterdam is one of Europe's largest weight loss surgery hospitals. Like the Weight Loss Surgery Scotland team they work very closely with their patients, offering a full range of procedures including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. The visit provided opportunity to learn how a high volume centre works, as well as take home some ideas of how to reinforce their own high standards of patient care and satisfaction.
Weight Loss Surgery Scotland supports healthy activities for charity
A local group of healthcare professionals meet regularly on their bikes to 'ride for charity'. They do a number of fun cycling days and sponsored cycle events to raise money for good causes, and the WLSS team showed their support for healthy activities by sponsoring the group. Here is one of the team members sporting his dashing WLSS (and Hernia Surgery Scotland) t-shirt.
Support for this team of 'charity bike-riders' is the latest in a line of active lifestyle sponsorships from the WLSS team - you can read a short piece below on WLSS's sponsorship of Edinburgh Spartans football team also.
Weight Loss Surgery Scotland travels to pioneering centre
Some of the Weight Loss Surgery Scotland team travelled to Switzerland last month in a 'best practice' sharing exercise with one of their leading weight loss surgery clinics.
Surgeons Andrew De Beaux and Pete Lamb, along with Specialist Bariatric Surgery Nurse Lorna travelled to the eSwiss clinic in St Gallen in a visit designed to share ideas and techniques around effective weight loss surgery. A lot of information was shared between the two teams, particularly around gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy procedures, and the visit helped give the WLSS team an insight into how the clinics are setup and run in other European countries.
The eSwiss clinic is run by leading surgeons and doctors with years of experience in bariatric surgery.
Inspired by the visit, all three team members returned home to Scotland with fresh ideas of how to further develop the Weight Loss Surgery Scotland clinic.
They'd be happy to talk about their experience at your next visit if you're interested in knowing more; just ask.

It seems it's not just us who were impressed with former patient Charlene's triathlon achievement (see below). The Sunday Post also took an interest. Charlene had a sleeve gastrectomy procedure with us in 2011. You can see the feature article by clicking here

Weight Loss Surgery Scotland pioneers new treatment
On Thursday 6th June the WLSS team carried out a procedure to implant an EndobarrierTM device. This is the first procedure of its kind in Scotland and makes great strides in the development of new techniques to help combat obesity and the associated illnesses. The ultra thin sleeve is placed in the duodenum and upper part of the small intestine to reduce appetite stimulation and lower calorie absorption, with the primary effect that it can 'cure' diabetes. Weight Loss Surgery Scotland are committed to providing the best quality care and sustained weight loss for their patients, and this represents another positive step in not just obesity management, but diabetes disease management too.
